Optimizing Supplier Locations

Optimizing Supplier Locations

When you’re considering different suppliers for custom roll formed metal parts, one factor to take into consideration is the location of the supplier and related logistics of transferring parts from the supplier’s facility to yours or to the installation location. With locations across the southeast US and in central Mexico, Roller Die + Forming is able to leverage our various locations to serve a wide variety of clients and industries and keep transportation costs under control.

Quite simply, the shorter distance you move parts, the lower the transportation costs are, in general. So using the supplier location that is closest to your facility, if possible, can help keep costs under control, even as fuel and trucking prices rise. Similarly, if you’re creating roll formed parts for a solar or construction project, working with a closer facility can help with costs.

For example, our Florida location has been busily working with solar companies throughout the Sunshine State and southern Georgia to create the necessary parts for solar racks, put them together into “kits” that are delivered right to the site, and even leverage re-usable shipping crates where possible to ensure those costs are stable.

Similarly, our Mexico facility works with both domestic and international companies to manufacture roll formed parts right in the industrial center of Mexico. Parts are delivered from that facility to other plants in the area or even across the border into the US. Shipping from Mexico is often cheaper and more reliable than shipping from overseas. As logistics around the world have been put under strain due first to the pandemic and workforce shortages and now to increasing Geo-political uncertainty, bringing supplier parts closer to home can help avoid or mitigate supply chain issues.
